The story of the ten young female volunteers at Dong Loc Intersection remains etched in the minds of the Vietnamese people, becoming symbols of sacrifice for the homeland. The beautiful image of these female heroes and the poignant courage they displayed have brought tears to many generations in Vietnam. This narrative has been vividly portrayed through the show ‘Legend of Youth – Living a Life Worth Living’ and showcased at the Vietnam Women’s Museum.

Overview of the ‘Legend of Youth’ show

In tribute to those who fell for the nation, the girls from Dong Loc Intersection are not only remembered through the show but also benefit from technological advancements, including light effects, 3D visuals, and a cast aged between 18 to 24, accurately reflecting the real ages of the ‘Pathfinder Girls.’ This combination creates a profound impression and moves many viewers to tears.

Actors and the Director of the Vietnam Women’s Museum, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, personally visited the site, experienced the surroundings, and then returned to Hanoi to recreate the stage for the ‘Legend of Youth.’ She even boldly transported 6 tons of soil from Dong Loc Intersection to the Vietnam Women’s Museum in Hanoi to construct the stage, aiming to provide the most authentic and intimate experience for the audience. Notably, these 5 tons of soil were taken from the very ground where the female heroes had fallen for the homeland.

Ten young women displayed exceptional courage and sacrifice, paving the way for the transportation of ammunition and provisions from the North to the South at a very young age. The names of these female martyrs are as follows:

  • Ho Thi Cuc sacrificed at the age of 24.
  • Nguyen Thi Nho sacrificed at the age of 24.
  • Duong Thi Xuan sacrificed at the age of 21.

The greatest pain and loss occurred on the third day when comrades found the body of sister Ho Thi Cuc on Elephant Hill. The position in which they discovered her was with her head wearing a helmet, and beside her lay a shovel. Her fingers were bleeding, and it was believed that she had desperately tried to dig the soil in an attempt to find a way out.

‘Legend of Youth – Living a Life Worth Living’ is a story based on the true events of the 10 young female volunteers at Dong Loc Intersection during the war. In 1968, the 15A route was considered a vital artery for military traffic to transport supplies from the North to the South. At that time, these 10 young female volunteers were stationed here to open the way for convoys carrying weapons and provisions.

This location also became the site where the 10 heroic martyrs of Team 4-C552 sacrificed themselves fiercely while carrying out their mission. Currently, the Dong Loc Intersection memorial is a place to preserve the memory and commemorate these special young women.
